Quilt Batting Sizes & Specifications
Designed with Quilters and Quilt Sizes in Mind
Sized for Today's Quilts, Not Yesterday's Standards
At Nine Acres, generous sizing isn’t extra – it is intentional.
Standard batting sizes often fall short of real quilt dimensions. Seam allowances, borders, heavy quilting, and longarm loading all add up, leaving quilters with batting that’s just a little too small.
That often means extra trimming, piecing, or workarounds that interrupt the quilting process and compromise the finished result.
We chose to do it differently. Nine Acres Quilt Batting is intentionally sized larger to better match how quilts are actually made. By offering more generous measurements—including sizes rarely available—we help ensure full coverage from edge to edge, with room to quilt confidently. No last-minute adjustments. No surprises. Just batting that supports the quilt you planned to make.
Available Batting Sizes
Below you’ll find our complete range of batting sizes, created with real quilt needs in mind.
Pre-Cut Sizes
- Craft – 45” x 40”
- Crib – 60” x 45”
- Throw – 80” x 60”
- Twin – 90” x 80”
- Double – 100” x 90”
- Queen – 120” x 100”
- King – 120” x 120”
- California King – 140” x 120”
Our California King size offers generous coverage for larger quilts and is rarely available elsewhere.
Roll Sizes
For longarm quilting businesses and higher-volume needs:
- Standard Roll – 90” x 25–30 yards (depending on weight)
- King Roll – 120” x 25–30 yards (depending on weight)
Rolls are consistent in thickness and fiber quality, minimizing waste from thin spots or imperfections.
Stitch Distance & Stability
Nine Acres Quilt Batting is made using long high quality fibers and careful needle punching that allows quilting stitches up to 8 inches apart.
The longer fibers naturally intertwine during processing, creating stability without scrim, glue, or chemical binders.
This provides:
- Reliable loft retention
- Even support across larger quilt sections
- Flexibility for both dense and open quilting designs
Shrinkage Specifications
Proper fiber quality makes a measurable difference.
- 100% Cotton Batting – Approximately 3% shrinkage with cool wash and cool dry
- 80/20 Cotton Blend Batting – Approximately 1%–3% shrinkage with cool wash and cool dry
We recommend washing finished quilts on low heat and removing from the dryer just before fully dry to preserve fiber integrity.
